BENEFIT FRAUD IS A SERIOUS MATTER!
Fraud occurs when a member or a provider files a claim against our plan that has not occurred or has been altered in any way in order to get a claim covered.
We, at Local 493 Welfare Trust, pay some claims directly from our fund. Our Health, Dental, and Short-Term Disability Providers adjudicate the claims on our behalf and bill us for any claims paid. If you file false claims, you are stealing from our plan. The Life, Long Term Disability, Critical Illness and Travel benefits are insured, however benefit fraud causes our premium costs to increase. Any person found guilty of intentional fraud will face penalties that can include removal from the plan indefinitely, removal from our local, and criminal charges.
Should you encounter a provider that is offering to file false claims, it is your responsibility as a member to inform our benefits office.
